Dental Implants

If you have missing or broken teeth, dental implants may be right for you.  You can count on Dr. Bridges and his team at Smile Station Family Dentistry to help you achieve a healthy smile that not only looks natural but will improve your health.

What Are Dental Implants?

Chances are you’ve heard of Dental Implants, but may be wondering exactly what they are.   A dental implant is a small titanium posts that act as a tooth root when placed in the jaw.  A tooth crown or “cap’ is then attached to the implant to create a complete new tooth. The implant and crown looks and feels natural when you chew, talk or smile. Dental implants can also be used for stabilizing loose dentures.

Who is a Candidate for Dental Implants?

If you have broken or missing teeth or a loose denture or partial, you may be a candidate for dental implants.  Dr Bridges and his team at Smile Station Family Dentistry can examine your teeth and gums to determine if dental implants are right for you.

What are the Benefits of Dental Implants?

There are many advantages to dental implants. As we mentioned, it is important to maintain your oral health so you can keep your teeth for years to come. The benefits include:

  • Better Oral Health

One of the benefits of dental implants is maintaining the bone structure under your gums.  When teeth are missing, the jaw bone shrinks over time. Dental implants may help prevent this bone loss.  Replacing missing teeth also prevents teeth from drifting and moving, which can cause bite problems.

  • A More Attractive Smile

Do you hold your hand over your mouth or avoid smiling because of missing teeth?  Why be forced to hide your smile? You can have a healthy, full smile without the embarrassment caused by broken or missing teeth.

  • Improved Overall Health

When teeth are missing, food is harder to chew.  If you swallow food that is not chewed properly, the stomach must produce more acid and the intestines must work harder to digest it.  This can cause acid reflux, abdominal pain and gas, and your body won’t get the full nutrient benefit of your food.  Replacing missing teeth can help you fully chew your food, resulting in better overall health.

Implant Types

There are 2 main types of dental implants, Traditional Implants, and Narrow Body Implants:

  • Traditional Implants

Traditional implants require healing time, so the implant can become sturdy.  This may take several months. You may or may not have a temporary tooth crown during this time.  Once the implant is sturdy in the jaw, the crown is attached to the implant.  The result is a strong, sturdy tooth that looks and feels natural.

  • Narrow Body Dental Implants

These dental implants are smaller in diameter and are often used to stabilize loose dentures and partials.  These implants are sturdy, reliable and cost effective.  Narrow Body Dental Implants may also be used for single tooth replacement in some instances.  These implants are often completed in a single day and require less healing time than traditional dental implants.
